A Note from Management

The Rice City Players are excited to announce auditions for 

9 to 5: The Musical! 

Featuring music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, 9 to 5 is a hilarious, high-energy story about three women who decide they've had enough of their egotistical boss, and take matters into their own hands.

We're looking for a company of bold performers, strong storytellers, big personalities, and people who aren't afraid to play.

Before arriving at auditions please complete your official audition form.

You'll need provide your contact information, performance experience, role interests, schedule conflicts and other information that will help the production team get to know you.

Please disclose all known conflicts. Conflicts do not automatically prevent someone from being cast, but they are an important part of building the rehearsal schedule.

Office workers. Executives. Secretaries. Hospital staff. Police officers. Fantasy characters. And some wonderfully ridiculous people. 

Love comedy? Love character work? Love singing and moving with an ensemble?

AVAILABLE ROLES

VIOLET NEWSTEAD (40+) - [Vocal Range: Top: D5 Bottom: F3] intelligent, sarcastic, and ambitious. Strong alto/mezzo belt, excellent comedic timing, natural authority, and the vocal stamina to carry a leading role.

DORALEE RHODES (20+) - [Vocal Range: Top: E5 Bottom: G3] warmhearted, spirited, and courageous. Strong country-style belt, excellent comic timing, confident stage presence, and the ability to balance sweetness with strength.

JUDY BERNLY (30+) - [Vocal Range: Top: F5 Bottom: Ab3] vulnerable, hopeful, and resilient. Strong mezzo/soprano belt, excellent emotional range, and the ability to portray a major transformation from insecurity to independence.

FRANKLIN HART JR. (40+) - [Vocal Range: Top: Gb4 Bottom: C3] arrogant, sexist, and manipulative. Strong character baritone, excellent physical comedy, confident stage presence, and the ability to play a charming but thoroughly unlikable villain.

ROZ KEITH (35+) - [Vocal Range: Top: C5 Bottom: G3] controlling, devoted, and passionate. Strong alto/mezzo character belt, fearless comedic instincts, and the ability to shift from strict professionalism to outrageous romantic obsession.

 

JOE (25+) - [Vocal Range: Top: G4 Bottom: B2] kind, patient, and supportive. Warm tenor or high baritone, sincere acting, romantic leading-man presence, and strong chemistry with Violet.

 

DWAYNE RHODES (20+) - [Vocal Range: Top: G4 Bottom: E2] loving, loyal, and easygoing. Warm tenor/baritone voice, relaxed country charm, and strong chemistry with Doralee. Guitar-playing ability is helpful.

 

JOSH NEWSTEAD (TEENAGER) -  [Vocal Range: Ensemble Singing as Assigned] rebellious, playful, and affectionate. Strong comic timing, youthful energy, and the ability to portray a believable teenager. May also sing in the ensemble if doubled.

 

DICK BERNLY (35+) - [Vocal Range: Ensemble Singing as Assigned] unfaithful, self-centered, and presumptuous. Strong character acting, confident comic timing, and the ability to play Judy’s insensitive husband without turning him into a caricature.

 

MISSY HART (20+) - [Vocal Range: Ensemble Singing as Assigned] cheerful, devoted, and oblivious. Strong comic instincts, bright stage presence, and the ability to remain sincerely innocent while surrounded by Hart’s inappropriate behavior.

 

MARIA DELGADO (20+) - [Vocal Range: Top: D5 Bottom: F4] vibrant, outspoken, and resilient. Strong featured/ensemble singer, clear character choices, confident movement, and the ability to contribute to demanding group harmonies.

 

KATHY (30+) - [Vocal Range: Top: D5 Bottom: G4] talkative, observant, and inquisitive. Strong featured/ensemble singer, excellent comic timing, expressive reactions, and the ability to create a memorable office personality.

 

MARGARET (40+) - [Vocal Range: Ensemble Singing as Assigned] tipsy, witty, and unpredictable. Strong physical comedy, memorable character work, and the ability to contribute confidently to ensemble singing and movement.

 

BOB ENRIGHT (25+) - [Vocal Range: Male Ensemble/Baritone as Assigned] confident, privileged, and opportunistic. Strong comic character acting, confident movement, and the ability to contribute to the male ensemble and office boys’ club.

 

RUSSELL TINSWORTHY (50+) - [Vocal Range: Primarily Non-Singing] commanding, perceptive, and decisive. Strong authoritative presence, clear speaking voice, and the ability to deliver dry comedy while remaining powerful and believable.

WOMEN’S ENSEMBLE (ADULTS) - [Vocal Range: Soprano/Mezzo/Alto] energetic, versatile, and expressive. Strong singers who can hold harmonies, move confidently, and portray secretaries, hospital workers, fantasy characters, and other featured roles.

 

MEN’S ENSEMBLE (ADULTS) - [Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone/Bass] confident, adaptable, and comedic. Strong singers and movers who can portray office employees, boys’ club members, police officers, hospital workers, and fantasy characters.
